Sustainable Woodlands - Biodiversity & Coppice Management training day

Updated: Apr 8

Sustainable Woodlands - Biodiversity & Coppice Management training day @ Pete Beaumont's Woodland - Sat, 02 Mar - 10.30am to 3pm.

Pete is renowned as a Sustainable Woodland Tutor and we were delighted to avail of this opportunity to have a guided walk at Pete’s home place, where he explained to a packed and captive audience, on how he manages the woodland for biodiversity, regenerating his woodland while sourcing materials for his Weaving livelihood. The aim was to avail of the opportunity to do some practical coppicing and brash-hedging, while demonstrating some of the basic coppice skills.

At 3pm the group were also invited tol travel to Tuamgraney Community Woodland Wildlife Park where an oak tree was planted in memory of native woodland specialist and woodcarver Andrew St Ledger, who sadly passed away in 2023

This event was supported with the kind assistance of core funding by the IEN and by Department of Agriculture, Forestry & The Marine under the Forestry Promotion Programme.

Pete gave a guided walk explaining how he manages the woodland for biodiversity and then we all did some practical coppicing and brash-hedging and Pete demonstrate some coppice skills. It was a great gathering and booked out event.
