On September 28th and 29th, 2025, the Slieve Aughty Centre hosted a Special Weekend in the Hills, bringing together crafters, nature lovers and ‘Roots of Solidarity’ - Eco-Arts Festival & Palestinian Support Event.

We welcomed our usual selection of Workshops and attendees for the Weekend in the Hills alongside approx 100 additional festival goers to enjoy all the arts, crafts, dancing and activities.
We had a real atmosphere of solidarity and fun for the whole weekend. The feedback we have gotten so far has been inspiring and reflective of the overall aim of the weekend in the hills festival.
See this social media post from a lovely workshop attendee Lusi @redwolfwomenscircle
" Imagine a world where human beings are open hearted, kind and compassionate. People who honor and respect our world. Beings who work with natural materials to craft everything we need.
Imagine an energy that vibrates with loving kindness, passion for saving our heritage, our skills and a sense of ‘remembering’ how we used to live in tribal mindset. Where we encourage and teach each other. Where children are woven into every aspect of daily lives - tending a tire, foraging for food, making tools and being listened to and heard.
If you imagine that, then you imagine gatherings like the one at Slieve Aughty and the creation of Celt, and their Weekend in the Hills events.
For me, I had the honour to be part of something bigger than myself, to relax entirely and sink into a community way or being for two delicious days this weekend. My heart opened wide, smiles and friendly conversations with strangers who turned into friends effortlessly, new skills learned with the ancient tradition of doll making with Laura."
Posts and heartfelt shares like this above are what inspires us at Celt to carry on our mission every year. The workshops and the Eco-Arts festival were run in tandem throughout the days on Saturday and Sunday and in the evening all the participants came together to celebrate and connect.
If you are interested in attending this event yourself, mark your calendars for the next Weekend in the Hills in May, 2026, when we’ll be back with more courses and opportunities to connect with nature and creativity.

This was such a heartwarming read! The way you described the community energy and creativity at the festival really paints a beautiful picture of unity and mindful living. It’s great to see people embracing sustainable values — even in fashion, things like a faux leather jacket men wear proudly can reflect that same eco-conscious mindset. Loved this inspiring recap!
