'' Exciting progress is underway on CELT’s wetland restoration project, part of our Biodiversity Action Plan Implementation funded by the Community Foundation Ireland and Burrenbeo Trust. Just a week after the new ponds were dug, they are already filling with water, bringing life back to the landscape. The former drainage ditch has been returned to a more natural, meandering form, with peat dams creating varied water levels and pools.
According to Julius, the pond and drain block locations were carefully selected to maximise ecological benefits while avoiding impacts on the hydrology of neighbouring farmland. It’s clear that these new habitats will play a vital role in supporting local biodiversity. We look forward to watching the wetlands flourish over the coming months as the project continues to take shape.''
