This November we have been progressing with some exciting developments and taking steps in the implementation of Nature Restoration and Biodiversity Action plan CELT has initiated in partnerhsip with the Slieve Aughty Centre.
First was Pond Creation and Water Management with Féidhlim Harty. On the 8th November at Slieve Aughty Centre. Carrying on the work that was started earlier this year.
Also on the 15th November we hosted a wonderfully inspiring workshop 'Introduction to Hedge laying' with Steve Bass from Hedgerows Ireland with support from Julius Silvan, CELT Tutor & Forester!
Hedge laying is an ancient skill, involving a rejuvenative process that keeps the hedgerow young and vigorous indefinitely.
It is considered the optimum form of management for our native hedgerows and it is hard to overstate its value in preserving habitats for our threatened wildlife and protecting Ireland's Biodiversity.
It was a fabulous day, laying around 20m of hedgerows, at the walk of Slieve Aughty Centre!! We are grateful for all the support from our Community for these projects and more.
Funded by the Community Foundation Ireland and Burrenbeo Trust, this wetland restoration project is set to become a vibrant habitat, supporting local biodiversity and ehancing native flora and fauna
