Ceremonial Frame Drum Making, Ancestral Rhythm and Connection.
Join Kate Hayes for a two day immersive journey into the making of a ceremonial frame drum, rooted in Irish tradition and connected to ancient drum cultures.
This workshop draws inspiration from the Irish riddle drum, one of the earliest forms of frame drum in Ireland, while also honouring the deep traditions of Northern Mongolia and Siberia, where the earliest known frame drums were created and used for rhythm, journeying, and connection.
Unlike the more widely known Native American style drums, these traditional frame drums are not back laced. Instead, the hide is stitched directly to a wooden hoop, with a handcrafted wooden handle carefully selected from seasoned natural wood and fitted to each individual drum.
