This one day workshop is perfect for creating a unique gift for someone special (or yourself!). A light organic lunch is included.
Dave Swift is offering students one of two options for the one day course:
(1) a 1:1 scale museum-grade reconstruction of one of the most elaborate and detailed belts known from Viking-Age Ireland.
The fittings are based on a mid 10th Century archaeological find excavated at Dunmore Cave (Co Kilkenny) in 1989.
The belt fittings - both buckle and strap end - will be made of copper alloy (bronze) as per the original and are in the Hiberno-Norse style with three rivets securing the buckle and four small pins securing the strap end to the strap.
The buckle also features a hinge and the belt fittings as a whole are one of the very few known matching sets ever found in Ireland.
