About The Event

Students will be given a brief history of leather use and to the different types of leather used in the work.

Through the process of getting used to the tools and then creating a finished leather item, various processes will be practised including working with templates, cutting the leather, awling, stitching, riveting and decorative work.

Leather dye can be used to enhance the leather before the final protective finishes are applied.

Leather items made on this course can include belts including historic Irish Volunteer belts, guitar/banjo straps, medieval style pouches, medieval archer's bracers, knife sheathes, tool rolls, and leather covers for books/journals.
