Join us for FREE Biodiversity Week Event with local Community Members of Abhainn Dá Loilioch Woodland Group & the Woodland League's guest Brian Walsh, a forester specialising in CCF and agroforestry - taking place at Lahardaun, near Gort, Co.Galway - meeting at the Chevy Chase entrance
We welcome this opportunity to connect with our neighbours and local communities in celebrating our rich local biodiversity as part of the annual National Biodiversity Week.
Ireland’s fourth National Biodiversity Action Plan launched earlier this year, coincided with a call for urgent action from the Citizen Assembly’s report on Biodiversity Loss, indicating that Irish nature has never been under so much pressure.
Nature as we know, is critically important in providing oxygen, clean water, soil, trees, peatlands, woodlands, a stable climate and food – and not forgetting it’s a recreational and cultural resource that contributes to mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing, but as the recent Rights of Nature campaign emerging from the Citizens Assembly recommendations, highlights it also has inherent value and rights to flourish and thrive and to be restored.
As we welcome our visitors to join us for our Native Woodland Walks in the once Great Forest of Aughty, as part of National Biodiversity & Agroforestry Week, we wish to invite you to celebrate with us this precious habitat, and to take this time to reflect together on our collective role in supporting the regeneration and restoration of the former ancient forest, working together across our bioregion, reconnecting the ancient woodlands along the Abhainn Dá Lioilíoch river.
Join us in this timely event and embrace the new opportunities emerging as part of Ireland’s new Biodiversity Plans and Reforestation goals in delivering on rights of the Great Forest of Aughty to be restored!
CELT are delighted to cohost this event in association with Abhainn Dá Liollíoch Woodland group and The Woodland League.
