Traditional Skills Report '14
CELT’s involvement in shows and festivals has been an integral part of the group for many years. In 2014 Mark Wilson and Sarah Thompson concentrated on further developing craft based hands-on Workshops and Demonstrations for a wide variety of shows and festivals. As many show organisers are looking for visitor participation for both children and adults, and because of the uniqueness of the natural craft workshops that CELT offer, this was a very enjoyable and successful task.
We attended some of the largest festivals in the Country from Electric Picnic and Body and Soul whilst also appreciating working with our local communities in festivals such as the Scariff Harbour Festival and Feile Brian Boru in Killaloe. We travelled to Mayo for the Ballina Heritage Day – the largest Heritage Day event in Ireland and we furthered our relationship with University of Limerick, hosting and providing workshops for 4 events with them during the year.
By drawing on the skills of our tutor base we can offer a wide range of hands-on crafts including Woodcrafts, Spinning, Weaving, Coppercraft, Blacksmithing, Silversmithing, Felting and Strawcraft. These are all family orientated, and suitable for children as young as 4 years upwards. Indeed it was a young girl of just 3 years old that impressed me hugely, incredibly determined to hammer the nails into the Rustic Face she was making BY HERSELF and never once missing !
If you are one of the many people who attended any of our workshops last year, many many thanks to you for helping make our workshops, and our work, so enjoyable …
If you are involved in the organising of a festival or event, big or small, and would like some CELT craft workshops there, please get in touch with Sarah by emailing her or call her at 061-640765.
