Sugan Chair Making


Construct a traditional Sugan chair using green native timber, ash and hazel, with ‘mortice and tenon’ joints (no nails!)  and then seat the chair using a rope pattern for the seat. Sisal rope is use for the seat and also there will be instruction in making traditional sugan rope from twisted hay.

Sean has many years experience of traditional furniture construction based upon a knowledge of native hardwood trees combined with use of traditional hand tool and has been teaching Sugan chair making with CELT since 2002. He also provides skills demonstrations and exhibitions at events throughout Ireland.
