An introduction to the tools and methods of stonecarving. A relaxed and immediate emmersion into working with Limestone, Portland and Slate. From setting out letters and simple designs to sharpening your chisel and mastering the techniques of raised and V cuts in stone.
A finished piece is attainable after two days.
Materials are supplied for all practice and exercises, additional stone is available for a small fee. Chisels and mallets are supplied.
Course tutor: Tom Pollard
Tom is a qualified stonemason of 15 years having trained with Pat Mc Afee in Drimnagh Castle Dublin and further trained in Drimnagh in stone cutting and carving.
Most of his work is in traditional wall building and repair, commissions for carvings range from plaques to garden carvings and sculptures.
Tom's passion is for the use of natural and local materials, sustainable building and the passing on of the skills and methods of working with stone.
He finds working in harmony with a natural material is a pleasure and would like to help anyone interested to feel the satisfaction of doing so.
