Coppice Silviculture Course. Ballykillcavan Woods. Stradbally, Co Laois

Course Duration 4 days Oct 7th- 10th 2008

Day One.
Indoor session. covering the History,Theory,Methodology,Economics and Productivity of coppice management
Species identification and use. The Future.

Day Two.
Site Visit. A walk around the 109 Hectares of Ballykilcavan to look at and discuss management practices past and present, and discuss
Habitats,Conservation and historical features.

Days Three and Four.
Practical coppice work, working in pairs with hand tools under supervision. Issues covered , Health and safety, Hand Tools there use
and limitations, Tool sharpening, Stool reduction and layering techniques, material handling and grading, Canopy issues.and much more.
